Is this a cricket? He or she was clinging to the front of the house, looking as much as possible like the landscape: green with an overlay of dried-out, early-fall leaves. Now that's style. I think he/she is minus a left-leg joint, too. Didn't seem to bother it.

It looks like a katydid that has pretty much done it! It looks diseased or or it did not come out of its last instar stage of life very well. Its wings and wing covers are very damaged. The brown bits are interesting-it must be damage some how, but how-genetic or disease? Hmmmm... Well anyhoo it is fantastic find and picture. So I just found this blog...divinebunbuns-do you bake them?
